Alameda County Sheriff's Department Search and Rescue Team - CA Bill Weber - Team Captain, Mariano Caunday, Brian Erickson, Ray Ericson, Bob Ranoa, Leah Waarvik, Andrew Wright The Alameda County Sheriffs Volunteer Search and Rescue Team has been training with the use of Personal Watercraft, line systems and taking river training courses preparing for the Rigg Challenge. This team has set a forumla for the definition of 'teamwork' and applying themselves collectively to prepare for the event disciplines.
The team representing the Los Angeles County Fire Dept. Swiftwater Rescue Team is comprised of 6 members from various regions of the dept. Firefighter/Paramedic Walt Tayenaka works at Fire Station 110 in Marina Del Rey, Firefighter Kevin Frye works on USAR Task Force 103 in Pico Rivera. Firefighter Shannon Reedy is stationed at Fire Station 165 in Huntington Park. Firefighter/Paramedic Greg Weber protects the residents of South Central LA from Fire Station 14. Firefighter Sean Findlay and Firefighter Specialist Bryan Wells work on USAR Task Force 134 in Lancaster. All are members of the Swiftwater Rescue Team. Most of the team members are also instructors for the departments swiftwater program. All of the team members have extensive background in either swiftwater instruction or life saving work. Sean and Shannon are also lifeguards. All of the team members are also avid watersports enthusiasts, ranging from surfing and swimming to kayaking and rafting. The Team would like to thank the LA County Fire Dept. for allowing our participation in the Challenge and especially Captain John Boyle for making it possible. The Team is very proud and honored to participate in the Rigg Challenge and hopes that the visibility it generates helps to further the cause of safety in and near waterways.
